The term videogame is often up for debate.
For example, is it videogame or video game? Can videogames be considered art? Do
videogames cause violence? It goes without a doubt that videogames have become
a big part of modern culture.
(and for the record I like to spell it as
“videogame”)
As a 4 year-old child playing videogames
those questions never fazed me. The only thing that mattered to me as a kid was
the experience I had with a videogame. Let’s face it, as a kid you didn’t care
if a game was good or bad, when you received a new game it was fun. Who doesn’t
remember staying up past 12 A.M on a school night trying to defeat the last
boss, then going to school and telling all your friends? Fast forward 16 years,
I’m a 20 year-old boy, who still plays videogames. The only difference is I’m
all grown up and all the mature questions about videogames have caught my
attention. I still see videogames as an experience that can be shared amongst
others. And that my friends have leaded us to the purpose of this blog.
My name is Jesse Villarreal, and I love
talking about videogames. Like me, videogames have matured drastically and I
don’t mean visually. Videogames have gone from saving the princess to tackling
morality and diplomacy themes. With all the conversancy over what videogames
are and are not, I thought I should add my two cents. I’ve written about
videogames before on my, dare I say, Tumblr blog. So, why make a Blogger?
Tumblr is great for pictures, but that is all. I’m not a photographer or an
artist, I’m a writer and Tumblr doesn’t feel writer friendly. I’ve also created
a Youtube channel with a bunch of my friends, where we review videogames.
On this blog I’ll be sharing my thoughts,
adventures, and experience I have while playing videogames, documenting my
journey through the virtual worlds, at the same time building up my portfolio
for a writing career. I’ll also review games that I may not be able to review
on the Youtube channel. Videogames are more than a product their an experience
that can be shared and create conversations.
So without any further ado welcome to my
blog The Virtual Venturer.
